Station 4 Recognized by IAFF as a 100% Union House

Wilson County, Tenn. — August 30, 2025 — The Wilson County Firefighters Association (IAFF Local 4238) announced today that Station 4 has been officially recognized by the International Association of firefighters (IAFF) as a 100% Union House—meaning every eligible firefighter assigned to Station 4 is a dues-paying IAFF member across A, B, and C shifts.
“This recognition is about solidarity, safety, and standards,” said Colton Young, President of the Wilson County Firefighters Association. “Every member at Station 4 chose to stand together—not because they had to, but because they believe collective action delivers better training, safer staffing, and a stronger voice for the communities we serve. I couldn’t be more proud of their leadership.”
The IAFF presented Station 4 with a certificate commemorating the milestone. In Tennessee’s right-to-work environment, firefighters are not required to join a union as a condition of employment. Station 4’s achievement therefore reflects voluntary, unanimous participation, underscoring members’ confidence in the union’s work on issues like:
-
Safe staffing for engine advocacy
-
Cancer prevention and occupational health
-
Training and professional development
-
Fair wages, benefits, and due process
-
Mental health and peer support resources
“Station 4’s unity sets a high bar,” Young added. “It sends a clear message county-wide: when firefighters link arms, we improve outcomes for our members and for the public we protect.”
The Association thanked department leadership and community partners for their continued collaboration and support, and encouraged interested members county-wide to learn more about union membership and how to move their own houses toward 100% participation.
